۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And they will turn to one another and question one another. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Thus do We treat the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 will have their determined sustenance 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 clear, delightful to those who drink it: 46 No bad effect is there in it, nor from it will they be intoxicated. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 He shall say: Will you look on? 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to his friend in hell, "By God, you almost destroyed me. 56 And but for the favour of my lord, I should have been of those brought forward. 57 Are we then not to die 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is that better as a hospitality, or the Tree of Ez-Zakkoum? 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 and its fruits are like devils' heads. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 And afterward, lo! thereupon they have a drink of boiling water 67 Then surely their return is towards hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
