The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
