The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 there has come to them many a tiding wherein there are warnings, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 With looks downcast they will come forth, from the tombs, as though they were locusts scattered abroad. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ There belied before them the people of Nuh. So they belied Our bondman and said: a madman; and moreover he was reproven. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied. 14 We made (the story of Noah) as evidence of the Truth. However, is there anyone who would take heed? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 Ad cried lies. How then were My chastisement and My warnings? 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
