20 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Pen (Al-Qalam) before The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou folded in garments! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 surely in the day thou hast long business. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 and Pharaoh rebelled against the apostle, whereupon We took him to task with a crushing grip. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
