Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? - 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 enter, then, together with My [other true] servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
