The chiefs of Firon's people said: most surely this is an enchanter possessed of knowledge: 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 who shall bring before thee every sorcerer of great knowledge." 112 The sorcerers came to Pharaoh. They said: 'Shall we be rewarded if we are the winners' 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said, "Throw," and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 So they were defeated there and then, and were returned disgraced. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Said Pharaoh, 'You have believed in Him before I gave you leave. Surely this is a device you have devised in the city that you may expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They answered: "We have (in any case) to go back to our Lord. 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
