And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They said: "We worship idols, and to them we are ever devoted." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And who, I hope, will condone my faults on the Day of Judgement. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 give me a good name among later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 and do not put me to shame on the Day when all shall be raised from the dead: 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought close for the pious. 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And they, while contending therein, shall say: 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 Now we have no intercessors 100 no caring friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
