۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And stop them; verily they are to be questioned: 24 'Why do you not help one another? 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 And they will approach one another blaming each other. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 They answer: Nay, but ye (yourselves) were not believers. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In gardens of delight, 43 Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity): 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof), 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 Then one turned to the other in an enquiry. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we be recompensed?" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he will look down and see him in the midst of the Flaming Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Are we then not to die 58 except our first death, and shall we not be punished' 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is that better by way of hospitality or the Zaqqum tree, 62 which We have made as a test for the wrongdoers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
