Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' 1 He said: O my people! Surely I am a plain warner to you: 2 saying, "Serve God, and fear Him, and obey you me, 3 so that He may forgive you some of your sins, and grant you respite until a term known [to Him alone]: but, behold, when the term appointed by God does come, it can never be put back - if you but knew it!" 4 [And after a time, Noah] said: "O my Sustainer! Verily, I have been calling unto my people night and day 5 But my call has only made them flee the more: 6 Each time I called them so that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers in their ears and wrapped themselves in their garments, and persisted becoming very proud. 7 "I preached to them aloud, in public. 8 "Then verily, I proclaimed to them in public, and I have appealed to them in private, 9 "Saying, 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving; 10 He will send down abundant rain from the sky for you, 11 And help you with wealth and sons, and make for you gardens, and make for you rivers. 12 "'What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,- 13 when He has created you in stages? 14 Behold ye not in what wise Allah hath created seven heavens in storeys. 15 And made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? 16 "'And Allah has produced you from the earth growing (gradually), 17 He will make you return to it and then take you out of it again. 18 "'And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out), 19 "'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'" 20
