He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
