The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 And it will come to pass that those who are [now] bent on denying this truth will wish that they had surrendered themselves to God [in their life time]. 2 Leave them that they may eat and enjoy themselves and (that) hope may beguile them, for they will soon know. 3 Never a city have We destroyed, but it had a known decree, 4 No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 “Why do you not bring angels to us, if you are truthful?” 7 We send not the angels down except with the truth (i.e. for torment, etc.), and in that case, they (the disbelievers) would have no respite! 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 We place in the hearts of sinners (disbelief). 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Even if We open a door in the heavens and they ascend through it in broad daylight, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
