The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
