Jinns (Al-Jinn)
28 verses, revealed in Mecca after A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf) before Y S (Yaa Seen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ SAY: "I HAVE been informed that a number of jinns had listened; then said: 'We have heard the wondrous Qur'an, 1 ‘That guides to the path of goodness, we have therefore accepted faith in it; and we shall never ascribe anyone as a partner to our Lord.’ 2 and exalted is the majesty of our Lord, He has taken neither a wife nor a son. 3 The ignorant fool among us has spoken outrageously against Allah, 4 We had in fact thought that men and jinns would never speak a lie about God, 5 But some men used to seek refuge with some jinns, and this increased their waywardness; 6 ‘And that they assumed, like you humans assume, that Allah would not send any Noble Messenger.’ 7 And we sought to reach the heaven; then we found it filled with a strong guard and darting meteors. 8 We would sit there on seats to hear; but any listening now finds a meteor in wait for him. 9 ‘And we do not know whether harm is intended for those on the earth, or whether their Lord intends goodness for them.’ 10 And that some of us are good and others of us are below that: we are sects following different ways: 11 And that we know that we cannot escape Allah in the earth, nor can we escape Him by flight: 12 Now that we have listened to the guidance, we believe in it. Whoever believes in his Lord does not need to fear loss or oppression. 13 "'Yet [it is true] that among us are such as have surrendered themselves to God - just as there are among us such as have abandoned themselves to wrongdoing. Now as for those who surrender themselves to Him - it is they that have attained to consciousness of what is right; 14 And as for those who are unjust, they are firewood for hell. 15 If they had followed the right path, We would have provided them with abundant rain -- 16 That We might try them there by. And whosoever turneth aside from the remembrance of his Lord, him He shall thrust into a torment vehement. 17 And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone. 18 And when the slave of Allah stood up in prayer to Him, they crowded on him, almost stifling. 19
