The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
