The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 and believes in the truth of the ultimate good 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will ease him toward difficulty. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
