The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water gushing, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
