The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
