The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day resplendent 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 So, I warn you of the blazing Fire. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
True are the words of God the Almighty.
