Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 The fish swallowed him up and he deserved (all this). 142 And had he not been of those who [even in the deep darkness of their distress are able to] extol God's limitless glory, 143 he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 and caused a gourd tree to grow over him, 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them enjoyment [of life] for a time. 148 So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons? 149 Or that have We created the angels as females, while they were present? 150 Is it not a lie invented by them when they say: 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 Woe to you! How terrible is your Judgment. 154 “So do you not ponder?” 155 Or have ye a clear warrant? 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Not thus, however, [behave] God's true servants: 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Can tempt anyone to rebel against Him. 162 unless it be such as rushes towards the blazing fire [of his own accord]! 163 And the angels say, “Each one of us has an appointed known position.” 164 And indeed, we are those who line up [for prayer]. 165 And verily we! we hallow. 166 What though they would say, 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 Already Our Word has preceded to Our servants, the Envoys; 171 assuredly they shall be helped, 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So, (O Prophet), leave them alone for a while, 174 And wait; they will come to know soon. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 Then when it descendeth unto them face to face, a hapless morn that shall be for those who were warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be on the Messengers! 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
