A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Book has been sent down to you; so let your chest have no constriction because of it, in order to warn thereby and as a reminder to the believers. 2 [O men!] Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and follow no masters other than Him. Little are you admonished. 3 How many towns have We destroyed (for their sins)? Our punishment took them on a sudden by night or while they slept for their afternoon rest. 4 And when Our punishment overtook them they had nothing to say except crying out: "We have indeed been sinners." 5 Then We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers. 6 Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent. 7 And the weighing [of deeds] that Day will be the truth. So those whose scales are heavy - it is they who will be the successful. 8 As for those whose bad deeds weigh heavier, they will lose their souls for their injustice to Our revelations. 9 YEA, INDEED, [O men,] We have given you a [bountiful] place on earth, and appointed thereon means of livelihood for you: [yet] how seldom are you grateful! 10
