AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When those [heavenly messengers] came unto him and bade him peace, he answered, "[And upon you be] peace!" - [saying to himself,] "They are strangers." 25 So he turned to his household and brought a fattened calf. 26 He placed it before them. Then he said, "Why are you not eating?" 27 Then he became afraid of them. They said: “Fear not,” and announced to him the good news of (the birth of) a boy endowed with knowledge. 28 Then his wife came forward, making moan, and smote her face, and cried: A barren old woman! 29 They said: even so saith thine Lord. Verily He! He is the Wise, the Knower. 30 ۞ Abraham said: “Envoys (of Allah), what is your errand?” 31 They replied, "We have been sent to a sinful people 32 to let loose upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement, 33 which are marked by your Lord for the punishment of those guilty of excesses." 34 Then We evacuated there from all the believers 35 We found in it only one household of true believers -- 36 And We left behind therein a portent for those who fear a painful doom. 37 And in Musa also was a lesson, when We sent him unto Fir'awn with authority manifest. 38 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] turned away (from Belief in might) along with his hosts, and said: "A sorcerer, or a madman." 39 We therefore seized him and his army and threw them into the sea, while he was blaming himself. 40 And [you have the same message] in [what happened to the tribe of] Ad, when We let loose against them that life-destroying wind 41 It left out nothing in its path, but which it split up into fragments. 42 In the Thamud [there was another sign], when they were told, "Make the most of your lives for a while." 43 But they revolted against the commandment of their Lord, so the rumbling overtook them while they saw. 44 So they were neither able to stand up, nor were they able to take revenge. 45 [We destroyed] the people of Noah before them. They were certainly a sinful people. 46
