The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years. 4 So persevere with becoming patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 Those who are regular in their prayers. 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 and who are faithful to their trusts and to their pledges: 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
