Indeed We created man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud. 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 When it is properly shaped and I have blown My Spirit into it, you should then bow down in prostration". 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 But Iblis did not; he refused to be with the prostrates. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 (Iblis) said: "I am not one to prostrate myself to man, whom Thou didst create from sounding clay, from mud moulded into shape." 33 "Go hence, execrable," (said the Lord), "from this place, 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 "O my Lord," said he, "give me respite till the day the dead are raised." 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 except Your sincere servants". 40 (Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me. 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 Surely, Hell is the place to which they are destined, 43 It has seven gates; for each gate is a portion assigned from them. 44
