The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
