In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped! 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
