The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 By the Moon as she follows him; 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 and imbued it with (the consciousness of) its evil and its piety: 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and cruelly slaughtered her - whereupon their Sustainer visited them with utter destruction for this their sin, destroying them all alike: 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
