HENCE, [remember how it was] when thy Sustainer summoned Moses: "Go unto those evil doing people. 10 the people of Pharaoh, who refuse to be conscious of Me!" 11 'My Lord' he replied, 'I fear they will belie me 12 And I shall be embarrassed, and my tongue will not speak plainly, therefor send for Aaron (to help me). 13 As for me, they hold the charge of a crime against me. I fear they will put me to death." 14 He said: 'Never so, go both of you with Our signs; We shall be with you, listening 15 Go to Pharaoh and say, 'We are the messengers of the Lord of the worlds, 16 Send forth with us the Children of Israel' 17 [But when Moses had delivered his message, Pharaoh] said: "Did we not bring thee up among us when thou wert a child? And didst thou not spend among us years of thy [later] life? 18 And thou didst that thy deed which thou didst; and thou art of the ingrates. 19 He (Moses) replied: 'Indeed, I did that when I was among those who stray. 20 So I fled from you when I feared you, then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me of the apostles; 21 And that favour wherewith thou didst oblige me was that thou hadst enslaved the Children of Isra'il? 22 Pharaoh said: "And who is this Lord of the Universe?" 23 'He' (Moses) replied: 'is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you believe' 24 (Pharaoh) said to those around: "Did ye not listen (to what he says)?" 25 [Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers." 26 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "Verily, your Messenger who has been sent to you is a madman!" 27 [Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason." 28 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "If you choose an ilah (god) other than me, I will certainly put you among the prisoners." 29 He said: What! even if I bring to you something manifest? 30 (Pharaoh) said: Produce it then, if thou art of the truthful! 31 Then he cast down his staff, and lo! it was a serpent manifest. 32 And he drew forth his hand, and lo! it was white unto the beholders. 33
