The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And spreading shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches; 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
