Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment. 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 but when He tests him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Lord has disgraced me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
