The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 of an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 and [as for] those who are bent on denying the truth of Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand, 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
