He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
