The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and defilement flee! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
