The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 The night a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The rebels' abode, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
