He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
