The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 And by oath of the day when it reveals it 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Truly he succeeds that purifies it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
