The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Of the mighty tiding 2 on which they [so utterly] disagree. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the high hills bulwarks? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 The mountains put in motion turning into a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 tasting neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
