He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
