The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he beheld, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
