The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 He intends to turn you out of your land. What counsel do you then give? 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said, "Moses, will you first throw, or shall we?" 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired Musa (Moses) (saying): "Throw your stick," and behold! It swallowed up straight away all the falsehoods which they showed. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the sorcerers were cast down, bowing themselves. 120 They said, "We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Firaun, “You have accepted faith in Him before I gave you permission! This is indeed a grand conspiracy you have plotted in the city, in order to expel its people from it; so now you will come to know!” 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and then crucify you all!" 124 The magicians said, "We will certainly return to Our Lord. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
