Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ain. Sad. 1 This is an account of your Lord's mercy bestowed upon His servant Zachariah, 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 Praying: "O my Lord! infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head doth glisten with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to Thee! 4 "Now I fear (what) my relatives (and colleagues) (will do) after me: but my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Thyself,- 5 Who shall inherit of me and inherit (also) of the house of Jacob. And make him, my Lord, acceptable (unto Thee). 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 [Zachariah] exclaimed: "O my Sustainer! How can I have a son when my wife has always been barren and I have become utterly infirm through old age?" 8 [An angel] said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, for I created you before, while you were nothing.' " 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 And affection from Us and purity, and he was fearing of Allah 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
