Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 In these gardens and these springs, 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 thou art naught but a mortal, like us; then produce a sign, if thou art one of the truthful.' 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 Do not touch her with malice so that punishment of a dreadful day seizes you' 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 159
