The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He looked (at others); 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
