The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 O man! verily thou art toiling toward thy Lord a painful toiling, and art about to meet Him. 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 He shall be reckoned with by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Once, he lived joyfully among his family 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset; 16 and the night, and what it [step by step] unfolds, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
