Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 (Other) faces on that day shall be happy, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 where they will hear no idle talk, 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is reared aloft, 18 And the hills, how they are set up? 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
