۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 apart from Allah, and direct them to the path of Hell, 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 No indeed; but today they resign themselves in submission 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 Others will respond, "It was you who did not want to have any faith. 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 Thus we misled you. Lo! we were (ourselves) astray. 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no God except Allah”, they were haughty. 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact, he had brought them the truth and had acknowledged the Messengers (who were sent before him). 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 On couches facing one another; 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 One of them says, 'I had a comrade 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 Its crop is as it were the heads of devils 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 Verily, they found their fathers on the wrong path; 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 except for the chosen servants of Allah? 74
