The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
