The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught man what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
