۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 Stop them. They must be questioned." 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 On that Day they will all share the punishment: 33 Even so We do with the sinners; 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him). 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And you will be requited nothing except for what you used to do (evil deeds, sins, and Allah's disobedience which you used to do in this world); 39 But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,- 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 On couches facing one another; 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 And he will say: by Allah, thou hadst wellnigh causedest me to perish. 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 Truly We have made it (as) a trail for the Zalimun (polytheists, disbelievers, wrong-doers, etc.). 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Surely they found their fathers going astray, 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
