The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and continuous shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, and their supply will not be cut off, 33 And raised couches. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
