The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
